Women's Tennis Escapes Devils Clutches

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall needed every point to edge out Dickinson 5-4 in Centennial Conference women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center. F&M won three of the six matches in singles competition and two of the three matches in doubles play to improve to 9-3 (6-1 CC). Dickinson fell to 6-7 (2-3 CC).

Katie Gaskins won 6-3, 6-4 at first singles, while Dana Russo and Jenna Ishkanian won at fifth and sixth respectively. Russo had her hands full with Maya Ginsberg, squeaking out a second set tiebreaker win to force a match tiebreaker. Ishkanian made much shorter work of her opponent wining decisively, 6-2, 6-2. The wins were the second in a row for both Russo and Ishkanian.

Russo and Gaskins each had a hand in doubles wins as well. Gaskins combined with Barbara Bee for their second win at first doubles in as many meets. That duo is now 7-3 on the season. Russo and Dani Barish went to 4-4 as partners with a 9-8 (7-5) win at third doubles.

The Diplomats return to action on Friday at Bryn Mawr.
