Robyn Jones hit a two-out, two-run blast in the top of the seventh in an attempt to rally F&M to victory. Her efforts alone were not enough as F&M fell 3-2 in the opener and 7-0 in the nightcap.

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's softball team dropped a pair of Centennial Conference (CC) games at Haverford Tuesday afternoon. The Diplomats (3-15, 2-6 CC) fell 3-2 in the opener, and fell 7-0 to the Fords (11-7, 4-0 CC) in the nightcap.

Trailing 3-0 heading into the final inning of the opener, F&M mounted a two-out rally sparked by Kathleen Clinchy's single into rightfield. Robyn Jones hit her first home run of the year to make it 3-2, but Haverford's Samantha Fontinell got F&M's clean-up batter to ground out, giving Fontinell her first save of the season.

F&M's pair of hits in the seventh marked half of the hits in the first game. Fords' starter, Cassandra Searls improved to 3-1 on the year working the first four innings without surrendering a hit or a run.

The Diplomats got a solid start from Bonnie Crouthamel, who suffered at the hands of four F&M errors. None of Haverford's runs were earned. Crouthamel struck out three and allowed just four hits.

The Diplomats were again held to four hits in the closing game. Becky Garibotto struck out eight F&M batters to improve to 3-3 on the year. Haverford got all of the offense it needed in the first when Dana Irshay's leadoff single came home on an Allison Frank sacrifice fly.

The hosts tacked on two more runs in the third, and blew the game open with four runs on four hits in the fourth with Frank picking up another RBI. Irshay managed a pair of runs for Haverford.

The Diplomats return to action at home on Thursday when F&M hosts Penn State Hazelton.
