LANCASTER, Pa. - Ursinus College swept Franklin & Marshall in a Centennial Conference (CC) double-header on Sunday. The Bears (15-6, 2-0 CC) won the opener 8-2, before taking a mercy-rule shortened second game 15-0 at the expense of the Diplomats (3-13, 2-4 CC). Ursinus pounded out 32 hits between the two games, including four home runs. Kaitlyn Sutherland homered in each game including a two-run shot in the Bears 10-run sixth during the second game. Jennie Moore piled on with a grand slam later in the inning. All of Ursinus' starters managed at least a hit in game two, with six posting multiple hit efforts. Meanwhile, F&M was limited to two hits in the second contest. Bears' starter Lauren Davis (11-3) put 10 outs in the books without help. She did not issue a walk in the game either. Sam Basuk and Robyn Jones accounted for F&M's only hits in the game. The Bears' jumped on F&M early in the opener posting seven runs in the second. Sutherland's three-run blast and Kristina Gallagher's two-RBI triple did the bulk of the damage. Meredith Morgan answered with a solo shot to leftfield in the bottom of the second. Jones' leadoff triple in the bottom of the third became F&M's other run when Caitlin Elfring grounded out to third. Davis worked the first game for Ursinus, scattering six hits and striking out seven Diplomats. F&M returns to action for a pair at Haverford on Tuesday. |
