Softball Falls in Season Opener

Box Score

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Having lost the first six games off of the schedule to rain, Franklin & Marshall's softball team was set to explode. The Diplomats (0-1) did just that offensively, putting up 12 runs, but ultimately fell 14-12 to Framingham State (1-1) in 11 innings during Saturday's season opener at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Florida.

F&M fell behind 4-0, but rallied for a 7-4 lead. Framingham State posted three runs in both the sixth and seventh inning to send the game into extra frames. A Framingham three-run 11th ended the game.

The Diplomats (0-1) had five opportunities to win, including a bases loaded situation with no outs in the book. A missed squeeze and line drive double play dashed F&M's cleanest shot at victory.

The Diplomats got to Framingham's pitchers for 17 hits and 12 runs and lost. Bonnie Crouthamel worked 10 innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits. She struck out 11 and issued seven walks. Ali Tyler entered the circle in the 11th and took the loss.

Robyn Jones bashed a pair of doubles. She and Caitlin Elfring each picked up four hits. Lauren Incorvaia recorded three hits, including a triple. Jones, Incorvaia, Elfring, Meredith Morgan each drove in a pair of runs.
