Softball Falls 9-5 to Anderson

March 16, 2008

Box Score

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Still smarting from the 14-12, 11-inning loss to Framingham in the first game of the day, Franklin & Marshall's softball team fell behind 4-0 to Anderson through two innings. The Diplomats (0-2) rallied to claim a 5-4 lead midway through the third, but a Ravens' (4-7) four run fourth put F&M away for good.

Anderson jumped out front early plating the first batter of the game on the third at-bat. Kahley Barkes wore a pitch to get to first, and was sacrificed into scoring position. A Julia Seifring single plated Barkes, while she and Erin Garrity, who reached via walk, scored on a Kelly Thompson double.

The Ravens added a single run in the second.

F&M picked up four of its seven hits in its five-run third. The frame began with a pair of free runners as Liz Iannaconi lead off with a walk and Barbara Sasso absorbed a pitch. Meredith Morgan quickly cleared them from the bases with a two RBI double to make it 4-2. A one-out Robyn Jones single scored Morgan before Lauren Incorvaia reached on an error. Second-bagger Samantha Basuk drove the Diplomats in on a two-RBI single, giving F&M a 5-4 lead.

A Seifring double in the fourth tied the game turning a leadoff walk into a run. Haines single gave the Ravens the lead for good. Anderson added a pair before the inning was out.

Four players accounted for F&M's seven hits. Morgan went 2-for-4 with two runs knocked in and one scored. Jones also went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a run driven in. Basuk was 1-for-3 with two RBIs, while Caitlin Elfring went 2-for-3 at the dish.

Anderson's Thompson went 1-for-3 with three RBIs, while Siefring's timely bat yielded a 2-for-4 effort with a pair of runs scored and another pair knocked in.

Ali Tyler worked the first two innings, surrendering four runs, two earned, on six hits. Morgan (0-1) absorbed the loss, working the final four frames. She allowed five runs, four earned on six hits. She struck out seven.

Jessica Alsman (1-1) claimed the win for Anderson having worked the full seven. She gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits while striking out four.

F&M returns to action on Sunday for a pair.
