Early Goal Gets Diplomats Past Haverford

Oct. 13, 2007

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. - Shannon Summers scored her first game-winning goal of the season just three minutes, 28 seconds after the opening whistle to lead Franklin & Marshall over Haverford 1-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Saturday.

Danielle David chipped the ball over the defenders and Summers one-touched the ball into the goal, helping the Diplomat (7-4-2, 4-3 CC) post their first victory over the Fords (6-6-1, 3-2-1 CC) since 2002.

Haverford fired off 13 shots, including five on goal that were all saved by Erin Roy.

Summers had a chance to give F&M a 2-0 lead early in the second half, but her header of Athena Manolakos direct kick hit the post in the 52nd minute.

The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday at Dickinson. Game time is 5:30 p.m.
