Her goal is to provide each player the opportunity to develop her skills as a field hockey player, a scholar, and a contributing member of her community. Walkenbach's team continually strives to achieve the next level of their personal development, whether on the field or in the classroom. In her first year, her team achieved. Two players earned All-Centennial honors, including a First Team choice, while eight players were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad. The F&M Athletic Department's Delphic Society recognized 17 of her players on the 2006 roster for maintaining a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0. Walkenbach began her coaching career at her alma mater, Cornell. As a student, the 2000 graduate earned a B.A. in English and played four years on the defensive end for the Big Red. In addition to being a member of the Red Key Athletic Honor Society, she spent a semester abroad in Paris. As a coach, Walkenbach spent three years as an assistant. In her first season, she stepped in as the squad's interim coach, and was responsible for coordinating the team's recruiting, travel, and administrative needs. She stayed on for two seasons, assisting Donna Hornibrook. Under their direction, the 2005 team recorded its best finish in program history with a 10-7 record. That team set school records for goals (44), and led the Ivy League in goals, assists (35), points (123), shooting percentage (.231) and shots on goal percentage (.716). Cornell finished the year ranked fourth overall in the Ivy League with a 4-3 conference mark.
