Navy, Millersville Claim Battle For The Buggy Titles

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Millersville women's cross country team and the Navy men's cross country team placed five runners in the top 10 in each race to capture the Battle for the Buggy title on Saturday afternoon at Baker Campus.

The Marauders took first place with 19 points in the women's 6K thanks to Rachel Hull and Brittany Zuver finishing first and second, respectively. Hull ran 24:28 for the winning time and Zuver followed with 24:45. The Diplomats grabbed second place with 54 points, while Bryn Mawr earned third (75) and McDaniel finished fourth (86).

John Kipper led Navy with a time of 26:52 for third place overall, while Chad Shroy was two seconds behind his teammate for fourth and Andrew Shellgren took fifth (27:08). Millersville's Adam Malloy and John Kipper crossed the finish line holding hands, clocking in at 26:42 for first and second place, respectively.

Navy totaled 27 points in the win and the Marauders were a close second with a score of 33. McDaniel and F&M each tallied 91 points, but the Green Terror won the tiebreaker based on the sixth runner.

On the women's side, Emily Wilson led the Diplomats and came in fifth place with a time of 25:14. Colette Buchanan and Nicole DiBenedetto ran four seconds apart for eighth and ninth place, respectively. Buchanan edged DiBenedetto with a time of 25:49 to her 25:53.

Jenna Bush and Kelly Farrelly rounded out the top five for the Diplomats. Bush ran 26:36 for 16th overall and Farrelly clocked in at 27:01 for 18th.

For the men, Harrison Miller finished first on the team and 12th overall with a time of 27:47. Only a second separated 15th-place Erik Olsen and 16th-place Ryan Bell. Olsen recorded a time of 27:59 and Bell was an exact 28 minutes to take third on the squad.

Running the race in 30:07, Matthew Oleska took fourth on the team and 29th overall, while Chris Desilets was F&M's fifth runner to finish (30:36).

The Diplomats return to action on Oct. 6 at the Dickinson Invitational.
