Laster and Marossine Sweep First and Second in Steeple at WCU
April 14, 2007 WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Franklin & Marshall men's track and field team picked up two first place finishes, while the women garnered three firsts this weekend at the West Chester University Invitational. The two-day met was a non-scoring affair comprised of several PSAC schools, and a handful of Division III teams. For the men, Josh Laster and Pavel Marossine swept the first two spots in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Laster clocked a 10:12.22, while Marossine crossed a little over nine seconds later, in 10:21.78. The F&M duo was well out in front of the field. Jon Brallier won the pole vault, clearing at 4.43 meters. Jake Gomolinski-Ekel finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.74, tops amongst DIII competition. West Chester runners took first and third, with a Cheyney runner in between. He also finished fourth in the 400, posting his best time of the year, a 50.23. Zach Barninger was the top Division III entrant in the Decathlon, taking fifth in the competition with 5,268 points. Karen Ziga won the 10,000-meter run on Friday evening. She completed the 25 laps in 38:23.71. East Stroudsburg's Lori Johnson took second with a 41:00.84. Megan Hunter won the 800 in a time of 2:25.60, giving her nearly three seconds on West Chester's Shannon Murphy. Hunter also took fifth in 200-meter dash (27.80). Shannon Weir easily won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:32.44), outclassing the field by 34 seconds. In the field, Libby Haas managed a second place finish in the high jump clearing at 1.52 meters. She came in behind Salisbury's Jenn Bulger, who posted a mark of 1.57 meters. Vanessa Pabon placed third in the long jump with the top finish by a Division III entrant. Pabon leapt 4.63 meters. The event was won by Bloomsburg's Connie Ranieri at 4.91 meters. The Diplomats return to the track next week at East Stroudsburg. |
