Wagner Named Regional Coach Of The Year

Dec. 31, 2007

LANCASTER, Pa. - Dan Wagner, head coach of the Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team, has been named the 2007 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Mid-Atlantic Regional Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Wagner was one of eight Division III coaches chosen for a regional award and is a finalist for National Coach of the Year, which will be announced at the Association's annual Awards Banquet on Friday, Jan. 18, in conjunction with the NSCAA Convention in Baltimore, Md.

Wagner, in his sixth season with the Diplomats, led F&M to their best season in program history with 15 wins along with a return trip to the NCAA tournament. The Diplomats went undefeated at home during the regular season, starting the year 12-0 and not allowing a goal in the first six games. F&M won the Centennial Conference (CC) regular-season championship and reached as high as No. 9 in the Division III national coaches poll, ending the season ranked 21st with a 15-4 record. Wagner mentored Brandon Corday to his second straight CC Player of the Year honors, becoming the only player to accomplish this feat.

Ryan McGonigle and Jason Keil joined Corday on the all-conference first team. McGonigle set the single-season record for most points in a season (38), while Corday broke F&M's all-time assists record with 25 for his career.

Wagner notched his 50th victory in a 1-0 win over Muhlenberg on Sept. 15, finishing the season with a career record of 59-17-2.
