Release by Alpha Phi and Sigma Pi - During the weekend of Saturday, March 1st and Sunday, March 2nd, the Franklin & Marshall Men's Soccer team along with Sigma Pi and Alpha Phi will be hosting a number of events to raise money for the Project Africa fund and the team's trip to South Africa over spring break.

On Saturday, March 1st, the brothers of Sigma Pi and sisters of Alpha Phi will be holding their 1st Annual Bench-A-Thon for Project Africa in The Pit from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to Project Africa in the name of Chris Campbell. Each brother has been collecting a list of sponsors who pledged a certain amount for each pound he will lift. After completing his bench press, the pledges will be multiplied by the weight he benches and calculated into a grand total.

Alpha Phi will be hosting a refreshment/bake sale in the atrium on Saturday, and will be adding up the pledges. Also in the atrium, members of the Men's Soccer Team will be selling T-Shirts detailing the weekend activities and accepting donations. Sigma Pi and Alpha Phi are excited to join the Men's Soccer team in a collaborative effort to honor our friend, and to help fight AIDS and bring soccer to those who most need it via Project Africa. Come out to support, sponsor a brother, or have a brownie and enjoy!

The Men's Soccer Team will be hosting the "Kickin' AIDS" soccer tournament at the ASFC on Sunday, March 2 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. All money raised will go to support the team's trip to South Africa that will take place over spring break in less than a month.

The tournament will be entirely co-ed, and be in a 3 vs. 3 format (no goalies). Each team will consist of 4-5 players and games will be 10 minutes. Every team will be guaranteed at least 3 games, followed by a knock out tournament. Gift certificates will be given out to 1st and 2nd place and the team with the best uniforms. The cost is $25 per team, but if you would like to participate and cannot get a team together, we will be taking individuals ($5 per person) and making up extra teams. There will be two divisions the Premier League (more competitive) and the MLS League.

There will be a sign up desk in the College Center the week before the event (Monday, February 25 - Friday, February 29), however you can also sign up by e-mailing Matt McCall.

This event will support a trip that the team is taking in honor of the late Chris Campbell, an F&M senior soccer player who passed away prior to this past season. In remembrance of Chris, a new turf field will be constructed in South Africa that will give these children a great outlet in their difficult lives.
