Diplomats Compete At Jack Pyrah Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa - Freddy Martino placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 12.71m to lead the Franklin & Marshall men's indoor track & field team at the fifth annual Villanova Jack Pyrah Invitational hosted by Haverford on Friday night. For the women, Alyssa Catalano took third in the weight throw (14.21m) and fourth in the shot put (10.70m) to lead the Diplomats in their first outing of the 2007-08 season. Martino also took the top spot on the squad in the long jump, recording a 5.66m distance. Freshman Mike Del Rossi led F&M with a 12.63m toss in the weight throw for fourth place and came in seventh in the shot put (12.09m). Senior Mike Arnold finished first in his heat and fifth overall in the 55m hurdles, collecting a time of 8.55. Charlie Bowen also posted a top 10 finish for the Diplomats, running the mile in 4:39.70 for seventh overall. Close behind Bowen was Pavel Marossine in the mile, clocking in at 4:45.31 for 11th. Jake Gomolinski finished eighth among 32 runners in the 300m dash with a time of 36.81. On the women's side, Shannon Weir returned to her hometown and leaving with a sixth-place finish in the mile (5:31.44). The Diplomats 4x400m relay team placed sixth with a time of 4:30.77 to edge Centennial Conference rival Swarthmore. Erin Gleason was .41m behind Catalano in the shot put, recording a distance of 10.29m for a fifth-place finish. Juniors Megan Hunter and Erica Losito both competed in the 300m dash, finishing 12th and 22nd, respectively. Hunter ran in 44.33 and Losito tallied a time of 49.14. Laura Hansen rounded out F&M's competition with a time of 10.23 in the 55m hurdles. The Diplomats do not return to action until after the New Year when they host the Coach "I" Invitational on Jan.12, 2008, beginning at 11 a.m. |
