F&M Athletics Facilities

Mayser Center

Franklin & Marshall College's Mayser Center houses the Diplomats' varsity gymnasium, 4 traditional-sized and 4 international squash courts, athletic offices, team locker rooms, a training room, an equipment room and a Strength Training Center, featuring selectorized strength training machines and a complete Cybex free weight system. The basketball court features a "soft" wood floor especially designed to ease stress on ankles, shins and knees. Mayser has a seating capacity of 4,000 and has been the site for many conference and NCAA Championship tournament events. F&M completed construction of four ASB international squash courts with full length glass backwalls in December 1997. Most squash authorities consider the ASB court to be the best court available in today's marketplace. The court complex features excellent seating with great sightlines to handle the crowds that typically attend F&M squash matches.

Alumni Sports & Fitness Center Kunkel Aquatic Center

The pride of the College is the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center, a multi-purpose athletic and recreation facility on North Campus (across Harrisburg Pike from the main campus). A 52,000 square-foot field house, featuring flexible playing space and an all-purpose synthetic floor, includes five full-size courts (convertible to basketball, tennis and volleyball), a six-lane 200-meter track, a fitness/exercise center (equipped with selectorized strength-training machines and a variety of aerobic equipment, including treadmills, steppers, NordicTracks and cycles), meeting rooms, locker rooms, offices, a catering facility and an upper-level suspended walking/jogging track. The facility also includes an Olympic-size (50-meter x 25-yard) pool with spectator seating and team locker rooms.

Spounagle-Williamson Field

Franklin & Marshall College's Sponaugle-Williamson Field has a seating capacity for 4,000 fans and is the home for the Diplomats football and lacrosse programs. The recently rebuilt playing field features Kentucky bluegrass sod and a new drainage system for ultimum traction. Sponaugle-Williamson Field also includes the William J. Iannicelli Track. The eight-lane track, built in 1990, features an all-weather surface utilizing a state of the art installation process. The three-layer track, prevalent throughout Europe but the first of its kind in the United States, is positioned on an asphalt base and includes a liquid polyurethane coating poured over a rubberized base mat. The top layer consists of rubberized chips spread over the polyurethane coating. the soft running surface is designed to be equally beneficial to serious competitors and casual runners. Field events are held in the infield of the track which includes concrete throwing circles, as well as a javelin approach, high jump apron and two jump runways.

Baseball field panoramic

The Diplomats baseball team competes on Caplan Field at Baker Campus located a few blocks off the College's main campus on Harrisburg Pike. The facility, which was enclosed by fence during the 1997 season, includes dugouts, an outdoor batting tunnel, bullpens, press box, a Nevco scoreboard and portable grandstand seating.

Franklin & Marshall recently completed construction of a new softball field located directly behind Caplan Field at Baker Campus. The new facility includes dugouts, an outdoor batting tunnel, a Nevco scoreboard and portable grandstand seating.
